The App is where all the tours are located. You download the free CRIMEWALKS™ app for your device and tap on the tours button. That is where you will find a description of the available tours, pricing, distance etc. When you have selected your tour and processed your payment, the tour will unlock, or you will be emailed a code to unlock your tour (depending on your purchase method). Then you are good to go. Watch this video for a demonstration.

As a new user, the first time you select “Start Tour“, your iPhone will require you to grant permission to the app to use your GPS Location data.  This will allow the app to determine when to trigger content as you arrive at any tour stop.  In order to function correctly, the app needs to be able to work continuously in the background while you travel.  iPhone users are encouraged to set their Location permission in the CRIMEWALKS™ app to “Always“.  Just follow these steps as illustrated in the accompanying video.

1. Select “NEXT” on the first Permissions screen.
2. Select “Allow While Using App” from the map screen.
3. Select “Open Settings” on the Allow Background Access screen.
4. Change the Location setting from “While Using” to “Always“
5. Return to the CRIMEWALKS™ app and select “ALLOW” from the Tour Notifications screens.

The tours start from various locations depending on which tour you choose. Tour starts are shown on the booking page, and will be shown as the first stop in the App.

CRIMEWALKS™ tours start and end whenever you want, 365 days a year.

CRIMEWALKS™ tours are self guided which means you are in control. But this doesn’t mean you are on your own. The map of the tour is always available, and the story locations are clearly labeled. When you click on the navigation button, your device’s GPS will give you directions to the next location.

Each tour is different, and they range from just a few kilometres to five kilometres or more. The distance and duration of each tour is clearly shown on the tour page, as is degree of difficulty. Few stars means minimal elevation gain, more stars means more hills. And remember, 1 mile is equivalent to 1.6 kilometres, so a 5 km tour is only a 3-mile distance.

Since these tours involve walking, the most important thing to bring is decent walking shoes. Most tours are on paved surfaces, but some tours feature gentle trails. A bottle of water would be a good addition, and depending on weather conditions, sunscreen, or an umbrella.

Unfortunately, they are not. CRIMEWALKS™ tours discuss true crime occurrences and although we don’t delve into gruesome details, mature themes such as murder and sexual assault are discussed. There is a required minimum age of 13 for all guests.

YES, of course! Since the tour is just you and your friends, why not bring your furry friend too? All our story locations are outdoors, so this is no problem.

There are always restaurants, cafes etc. on your route, and in some cases, there will be a public washroom available in a nearby park.
